It is not only an honor – but a challenge as well – to serve as the 2009 – 2011 Deep South Regional Director.  Alternate Director Margo Racca and I are delighted to be serving with the exceptional members of the Deep South Board of Directors.   Their energy, enthusiasm and expertise combined with the efforts of garden club members in the Deep South will generate great interest and participation in the projects and activities undertaken by the garden clubs of the Deep South Region.

Indeed, the hands and hearts of the garden club members of the six states of the Deep South joined “together as one” have the power to transform, reform, beautify and protect our region by focusing on living green and living clean.  We have an opportunity to actually make a difference in every aspect of our lives every day and to bring about a green-clean revolution in our communities and our states.

The Deep South Unified Project:  Protecting Our World…..Living Green – Living Clean  is designed to educate and motivate - not only our garden club members - but Deep South residents of all ages and classifications – to become active participants in identifying issues and finding solutions for environmental concerns that impact our homes and businesses, gardens, schools, communities and natural resources.

G.R.I.T.S are Going Green and Clean – Gardeners Residing In the South are Going Green and Clean.  The Deep South Region is utilizing the symbol of a bee as a reminder of our  “buzz words” for 2009 – 2011:  GREEN and CLEAN.

As garden club members we have the power to make a difference in our region  - for today and for the future - as we work with our club members, community members and our youth - educating and motivating them to think greener, act greener and live greener.  Living green and living clean are not just words, they are the basic foundation for becoming better stewards of God’s green earth.

Together as one, our hands and hearts are POWER - Protecting Our World’s Environment and Resources.  We can love, beautify and protect our world by living green and living clean.  We can make a difference!

If you are skeptical that you, as only one being, can make a difference - consider the Power of One.  One tree can start a forest, one flower can awaken the dream, one bird can herald spring, one smile begins a friendship, one candle destroys the darkness, one sunbeam lights a room, one step must start each journey, one voice can speak with wisdom, one heart can know what is true.  One life can make the difference…..and that One is You!
