Gardens – Home and Public

·         Compost leaves, grass, vegetables, fruit and coffee grounds

·         Mulch to conserve water

·         Plant natives

·         Plant trees to conserve energy

·         Create rainwater runoff areas

·         Optimize watering of lawns and gardens

 

Homes and Businesses

·         Recycle all newspaper, plastic bottles, plastic bags and aluminum cans; encourage recycle program development if none in your area

·         Conserve water

·         Pick up litter

·         Supply cigarette waste containers

·         Supply designated smoking areas outside of businesses, not right outside of doors

·         Recycle used computers, cell phones and cartridges

·         Wash only full loads of clothes

 

Environmental Education for Children and Adults

·         Power point on litter and conserving water

·         Power point on the Rain Forest

·         Power point on native plants

·         Power point on herbicides

·         Power point on recycling

 

Communities

·         Present environmental workshops,  write articles for newspaper

·         Compile articles from educational sources such as magazines

·         Compile articles published by professors at local colleges and universities

·         Set up a booth of these articles at the local library

·         Set “Litter Awareness Week” in communities

·         Sponsor contests for school children on litter awareness

 

Projects for Schools

·         Arbor Day plantings

·         Poster and essay contests

·         Plant a native plant garden

·         Collect “Box Tops For Education”, bottle caps, aluminum cans for recycling

·         Set up recycle bins at schools: newspapers, cans, bottle caps, used jeans

 Ecological Sites: Air, Water, Land, and Forests

·         Promote “no smoking” in all public places and in restaurants

·         Adhere to “no burn” edicts

·         Reinforce roadsides and hillsides to prevent erosion

·         Encourage re-forestation in burn areas and disaster areas

·         Create rainwater runoff sites

·         Lobby for tree management in your area to prevent clear cutting
